In Armenia, they will be celebrating the centuries-old Armenian tradition where it will be celebrated worldwide no matter where they live whether it’s at Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, or the U.S. Parents will place their baby on the floor in front of symbolic items in order to know the baby’s future. But Armenian parents will wait until their baby gets his or her first tooth then they will celebrate the ceremony called Agra Hadig. Agra means ‘tooth’ and Hadig indicate to a traditionally cooked wheat dish eaten on the event so agra hadig actually celebrates the appearance of the baby’s first tooth. The symbolic items are like tape measure, a stethoscope, a spatula, a book and other objects together in order and the parents also the relatives will encourage them to choose better and any items that the child choose and plays with would symbolize their future. For instance, if a boy chooses a tape measure, then it means that he will be an architect or an engineer. If the child picks up a book or a Bible, they will be a scholar, teacher, or clergyperson. If the child chooses money, it will become a banker, financier or wealthy person. If the baby selects a hammer, they will be in the building trades and a knife symbolizes a doctor a surgeon also scissors foretell a life as a seamstress or tailor and of course, only time will tell.
